Tree Root Removal Kotara

Tree root removal in Kotara cuts the root mass out of a blocked sewer or stormwater line and puts the camera down afterwards to check what the pipe looks like. Your plumber in Kotara sets a fixed figure before the cutting starts, and the visit can be booked for any hour the drain has stopped for good.

Tree roots exposed around a pipe in a trench

How do you know it's roots?

Roots leave a pattern, and it repeats from one garden block to the next. The usual signs:

  • Drains that run slow through a dry spell, then flood the first time the washing machine empties
  • A cable or auger coming back with pale root fibre tangled on the head
  • A drain that clears cleanly and blocks again the same time every year
  • A strip of lawn over the sewer run that stays greener and damper than the rest of the yard

Two of those together near a mature tree, and roots are the working diagnosis long before the camera goes down.

How the root cut runs

The visit works through the pipe rather than the garden above it:

  1. 01

    Locate the mass

The pipe locator and the camera findings tell us where the roots sit, so nothing is opened that doesn't need opening.

  2. 02

    Cut the roots

The jetter with a root-cutting nozzle, or the electric eel on older clay where a gentler approach fits, shreds the mat and flushes the pieces out.

  3. 03

    Camera the line clean

The camera goes in before the cut and again once it is done, so you can see bare pipe wall where the roots were.

  4. 04

    Price the repair honestly

Where the second look finds a split joint behind the roots, the pipe relining option is laid out with its own figure, not upsold on the spot.

What sets the price of cutting roots?

The pipe the camera finds sets most of it. A sound clay line with one root mat is a cut-and-go job; a pipe that has split behind the mass is a reline, which is priced separately. From there:

  • How far down the line the mass sits, since a mat out near the kerb means more hose in the pipe than one just past the gully
  • The access point, because an opening hemmed in by stonework on one of the deep, skinny blocks is slower to work than an open side path
  • Whether the visit falls outside normal hours, which carries the higher after-hours rate

We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.

Why roots own these drains

Kotara filled with single-storey brick and weatherboard houses as a garden suburb after 1947, and census figures put 88.1 per cent of its homes as detached houses. Deep gardens behind many of them run back toward the bushland at Blackbutt Reserve, and a cracked clay joint leaking into the soil is a water supply for any tree above it.

Autumn piles on. Leaf fall from the canopy above mats in gutters and pits while the roots work at the joints below ground, so the same property can face both problems in one season. If the line is sound and the roots are the only fault, the drain jetting page covers how the water strips the pipe wall clean; full footage of what's down there sits on the CCTV drain inspection page. The blocked drains hub holds the parent run for all of it.

When we're not the right call

Roots breaking into the street's sewer main rather than your own line are Hunter Water's to fix and pay for, and you get our footage to pass on. And if you want the tree itself gone, that's an arborist, since our work stops at the pipe.

Questions About Cutting Roots

Do the street trees around Kotara homes really get into the pipes?

They do, where the drain is old clay. Much of the suburb was built after 1947 on vitrified clay sewers, which open up at the joints with age, and a mature tree will find that gap from metres away. Deep garden setbacks on most blocks mean the lines run well within root reach.

Can you cut roots out without digging up the yard?

Usually, yes. The cutter enters at a gully or inspection point and works along the inside of the pipe to the mass, so the lawn, the driveway and the retaining walls stay as they are. The camera follows afterwards to confirm the line is clean and the pipe wall is sound.

Will the roots just grow back?

A cut line usually stays clear for years, but the tree is still standing, so a cracked joint can regrow eventually. The footage shows whether the pipe is still round and sound, or split and worth lining instead. That call is yours to make with the camera footage in front of you.

Is tree root removal in Kotara more expensive after hours?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). After-hours jobs carry the higher rate, and you still see the fixed figure before any cutting starts, so the number never moves once you have agreed to it.
